Beautiful, Durable Kitchen Tiles Built for Cape Town Homes

The kitchen is the heart of the home and the tiles you choose for it need to be as practical as they are beautiful. At Truline Tiling, we’ve laid tiles in hundreds of Cape Town kitchens, from compact apartment kitchens in the City Bowl to expansive farm style open plan kitchens in Stellenbosch and Paarl.

Kitchen tiles need to handle heat, moisture, cooking splatter, and constant foot traffic. We advise on the right tile specification for each zone floors, walls, splashbacks, and islands ensuring you get a result that looks stunning on day one and stays that way for decades.

Kitchen Splashback Tiling

The splashback is often the most visually impactful element of a kitchen. Whether you want understated subway tiles in a classic brick bond, a bold Moroccan patterned feature, large format porcelain seamlessly matched to your countertop, or a handmade artisan tile that adds warmth and character we’ll execute it with precision.

Kitchen Floor Tiling

Kitchen floors take enormous punishment. We recommend porcelain or natural stone tiles rated for high traffic areas, applied over a properly prepared and levelled substrate with flexible adhesive to accommodate the natural movement of a busy kitchen environment.

Island & Feature Wall Tiling

Kitchen islands and feature walls are where personality really comes through. We’ve created statement walls with bold zellige tile, elegant marble look porcelain island surrounds, and dramatic full height feature splashbacks that become the focal point of the entire open plan living space.

What Makes a Good Kitchen Tile?

  • Slip resistance rating suitable for the floor area
  • PEI wear rating appropriate for traffic levels
  • Low porosity for easy cleaning and hygiene
  • Heat resistance for areas near the hob or oven
  • Stain resistance essential around cooking areas

Tile Size Considerations

Tile size dramatically affects the feel of a kitchen. Smaller mosaic and metro tiles create intimacy and texture. Large format tiles (600mm+) create a seamless, spacious look with fewer grout lines. We advise on the optimal tile format for your kitchen dimensions and ceiling height during your free consultation.

Grouting Your Kitchen

Kitchen grout takes a beating from cooking oils, steam, and food splatter. We recommend epoxy grout for kitchen floors and splashbacks it’s nonporous, highly stain resistant, and doesn’t require sealing. For cementitious grout, we apply a high quality penetrating sealer and advise on long term maintenance.

Kitchen Tiling Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions
How long does kitchen tiling take?
A typical kitchen splashback takes 1–2 days. A full kitchen floor takes 2–3 days. Combined floor and wall tiling typically takes 4–6 days, allowing for adhesive curing time between stages. We’ll give you a precise timeline in your quote.

Partially. During active tiling, the area being worked on will be inaccessible. We try to plan the work to minimise disruption often tiling in sections so you can still access the kitchen partially throughout the project.

Rectified porcelain tiles are our most recommended option for kitchen floors they’re extremely durable, hygienic, easy to clean, and available in a huge range of styles. They require very little maintenance. Natural stone is beautiful but requires more upkeep. We’ll advise based on your lifestyle and aesthetic.

We tile around existing cabinetry with precision, using wet saw cuts for accuracy. For floors, we determine the correct sequence with your kitchen installer if new cabinetry is going in, as tile before or after cabinets both have pros and cons depending on the layout.

Epoxy grout is ideal for kitchen splashbacks because it’s completely non porous, highly resistant to cooking oils and stains, and never needs sealing. The colour stays consistent over time. For smaller grout joints, we also use premium unsanded cementitious grout with penetrating sealer.
